I was at a pretty big Euro/VW show this past weekend in Ft. Myers. A local dealer took a standard TDI and did a "GTD conversion". Looked amazing.

Oil prices are artificially forced down when oil producing nations keep production higher than demand. Which is what is currently happening. Saudi Arabia (and OPEC in general) is keeping production high (even though prices are low) in order to discourage fuel efficiency and to discourage alternative energy adoption.

Russia has speculated that there is a secret pact between SA and the USA to keep production high (and prices low) in order to destabilize their economy, as the majority of their economy is based on the exporting of fossil fuels. There is probably some truth to this assertion.

That's part of it, but gas prices are also artificially high most of the time because investors speculate on it and adjust prices before anything actually happens to trigger the rise.

Honestly, it's very close to price-fixing.
